This why we need a new iOS

If you have read anything about iOS lately, you'd know how much people hate the skeuomorphism which simply means the use of real life elements and symbols in design. There are many reports that Jony Ive will finally replace the ugly leather with an elegant flat design and we couldn't have been any happier. And if you just weren't convinced or didn't know what the big deal is with the current version of iOS, take a look at this picture:
 
This is a prime example of how skeuomorphism has taken away from the OS. In the iPad's contacts app, the need to use a real contacts book has led the designers at Apple to leave a lot of unused screen real-estate. Instead of displaying your contacts, all you get is useless black bars just so that the book isn't oddly stretched…like a real life book.
